News Item
A majority of Lane County Commissioners has approved a 1.1% income tax to fill the void left if congress fails to renew its annual aid to rural counties. This falls on the heels of Lane County voters rejecting an income tax that would have funded enhanced public safety measures in Lane County. The new tax does not fund any of those enhancements, but merely pays for services that would be cut if the federal money is not available. A citizen petition effort to refer the tax to the voters in May is already underway.
